Element of Style- Part V
This piece of writing really caught my attention from the start because the writer addresses the reader o a more personal level. The writer also forewarns the reader what is to come it the following pages which I think is unique, its almost as if this passage is little reminder or personal tutor. However I do not see how any of this is relating to photography. This chapter explains individual styles of writing and uses many comparisons of writers and how their mind works. One very interesting comparison was between the writer and a gunner and the inspiration and ideas that come out of the writer are often deemed as “wing shots, bringing down the bird of thought as it flashes by”. Its then proceeds by listing a multitude of tips and reminders that often help the writer catch this “bird of thought”. This interesting piece of literature I feel is more a less a guide to becoming a successful writer and understanding what the reader wants which is something I rarely pay attention to. On the last page if I recall it was fairly interesting to read about the advice that the writer was giving to its reader and how if one is to become a potential writer you need to give what the reader wants. It’s as if not only by persuasion but by like actually consider what the reader is coming from but not giving into what they want. I believe in the end however the writer must write about what they personally believe in and not give into the ideas of the readers. Ultimately its what the writer wants to make of it and the reader to interpret how they want.
